NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR YOUR HOME
New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home
Happy New Year! As we welcome 2017, we’re thinking about what we can do to better ourselves and our lives. But then – what about our home? This year, let us promise to better our homes as well as ourselves. We’ve come up with short, medium, and long term home resolutions for you (and us) to keep in 2017.
Organization is key to the way our homes functions. Unfortunately, many of us neglect to keep all the spaces in our homes arranged. This year, re-systemize your less-than-tidy spaces (we all have them!) and keep them that way.
Organize your accessories – scarves, gloves, and hats; give each item its own bin or hook. That way, when you’re done using them, you’ll have dedicated places to place them (and find them for the next time). Accessorizing will be so much more enjoyable when everything’s where it’s supposed to be.
Organize your spices – cooking is much easier when you know which spice is where.
Organize your junk drawer – yep, we said it… and we mean it! After a while, all the jumble you’ve been tossing in there adds up. If you go through it now you’ll probably find you can throw half of it away; always cathartic. Also, a good assessment of what’s in there will help you remember where you stashed your spare batteries come next December.
We all get into slumps – mid-day slumps, mid-week slumps, even mid-life slumps. In fact, your home goes through them too. This year, vow to pick your home up out of its slump and revive it! Pick a room – many homeowners wish to re-do their living room since it’s a central part of the home. We think this year, you should be a little selfish and give your bedroom some new life. It is your sanctuary, after all…or at least it should be.
Treat yourself to a new bed. Play around with bed frame styles: fully upholstered, four posts, a canopy; whatever has been on your long-term wish list.
Acquire some new art work. Re-energize your space by changing what’s on the walls, or simply the wall color itself.
Update your sheet set. Ask yourself: when was the last time you bought a new set? We love (and 100% believe in) crisp, clean, sturdy sheets. There is nothing like getting into a well-made, well-thought out bed at night. And take it one step further by adding a new duvet or quilt to cozy up with at night.
This one is always a biggie, but that’s why it’s a long term resolution – give your kitchen a makeover. Make 2017 the year you tackle the many obstacles and finally get the kitchen you’ve always wanted. One should never wait until selling time to get your home the way you’ve always envisioned it.
Change out the cabinets, or simply paint them if you want something a little more cost effective.
Update your backsplash. Those 1980’s fruit tiles don’t stand a chance against the tile options of today.
And not to be missed, the most functional change you could make is updating your appliances.
Therefore, use the New Year as an opportunity to take that plunge and begin working toward the home you deserve. Whether it’s short, mid, or long-term – changes to your home always begin with you!
